Purpose of Dynamic Positioning (DP) Induction
The Dynamic Positioning (DP) Induction course provides a foundational understanding of DP systems as outlined by the Nautical Institute Scheme of Training. Designed for bridge officers and cadets, this course covers the principles, components, and operations of DP systems, focusing on safe and effective use in various maritime conditions. Training includes both theoretical sessions and practical exercises on DP simulators, offering essential hands-on experience. Key skills gained include:

Essential Information

Prerequisites:
Participants must be bridge officers or bridge officer cadets intending to obtain a DP Operators Certificate. Admission requirements are defined by the Nautical Institute’s “DP Training Certification Scheme.”

This course is intended for all bridge officers and cadets entering roles that require DP operational skills.

Assessment:
To receive a certificate of completion, participants must pass an online Nautical Institute (NI) exam conducted at the training centre.

Certification:
Upon successful completion, participants earn a Nautical Institute-recognised certificate issued by Maersk Training.
Course content
DP Control Station Fundamentals:
Introduction to DP systems, main components, and their roles, including control station setup and system advantages/disadvantages.
Power Generation and Management:
Overview of power generation and distribution on DP-equipped vessels, focusing on redundancy and uninterruptible power supply requirements.
Propulsion Systems in DP Vessels:
Understanding types of propulsion units used in DP vessels, with emphasis on maneuvering and operational modes.
Position Reference Systems:
Learning the principles, operation, and limitations of position reference systems crucial for DP accuracy.
Sensor Systems and External Force Monitoring:
Detailed study of environmental sensors, motion and heading indicators, and external force monitoring tools like hawser tension and pipe tension.
DP Operations and Emergency Procedures:
Emphasis on operational procedures, contingency planning, alarm recognition, and use of worksite diagrams.
