Callum Dewar: building bridges in global training
November 2024

When Callum Dewar talks about his work, his passion is unmistakable. “I love teaching,” he says. “Maersk Training offered me the perfect platform to share knowledge and develop skilled professionals in the energy sector.” But teaching is just one part of Callum’s role. As Head of Operations, he’s also responsible for creating solutions that span continents—solutions that bring Maersk Training’s high standards to places where the company doesn’t yet have a direct presence.
Callum’s focus lies in partnerships. Whether in Japan, the UAE, or the USA, he works with local teams to establish training facilities and tailor programs to meet customer needs. His ability to adapt to diverse cultures and challenges has made him a driving force behind Maersk Training’s global reach.

Designing solutions with real-world impact
For Callum, every project is an opportunity to solve a unique challenge. Recently, he and his team designed and installed a cutting-edge training simulator for GiraffeWork in Japan. This bespoke project featured a combined Working at Height, Transfer Piece, and ART simulator, as well as a Yaw Deck. “Seeing it all come together and knowing it helped achieve GWO certification was a proud moment for us,” Callum recalls.
This hands-on approach is a hallmark of Callum’s work. From the initial design phase to the final installation, he’s involved in every detail. It’s this attention to detail that ensures Maersk Training’s solutions meet the exacting needs of its customers.
Navigating challenges with resilience
Callum’s career hasn’t been without its obstacles. One of the most defining moments came during the COVID-19 pandemic when Maersk Training faced unprecedented challenges. With a reduced team due to furloughs, Callum played a key role in enabling the company to achieve blended GWO approval—an industry first.
“It was a challenging time,” he reflects. “But we found a way to meet our customers’ needs, even when our ability to deliver was at risk. That’s something I’ll always remember.”
Collaboration without borders
A typical day for Callum involves working across time zones, teams, and cultures. He collaborates with colleagues in the UK SST business to share resources and align operations, partners with the digital team on product innovation, and liaises with global partners to ensure seamless delivery of training programs.
“Collaboration is at the core of everything we do,” Callum explains. This cross-functional teamwork is essential to maintaining the high standards Maersk Training is known for, no matter where in the world its services are delivered.

A culture of growth and feedback
Callum credits Maersk Training’s unique culture for much of his professional development. “The openness to constructive feedback here is invaluable,” he says. “It fosters growth by consistently identifying areas for improvement and encouraging skill enhancement.”
Looking ahead, Callum envisions his team branching into new product lines and delivery methods. He’s particularly excited about the potential to collaborate with the People and Performance division, bringing their expertise directly to client facilities.
Keeping the customer in focus
Callum’s advice to anyone considering a career at Maersk Training is straightforward: “Don’t lose sight of the outcome our services provide for customers.” For Callum, the purpose of his work is clear—delivering training solutions that help businesses and professionals thrive.

A career defined by impact
Callum’s journey at Maersk Training is about more than managing operations. It’s about innovation, resilience, and creating meaningful change. Whether he’s leading a high-stakes project, building global partnerships, or mentoring teams, his commitment to excellence shines through. With every challenge he tackles, Callum continues to set the standard for what’s possible in the energy sector.
