This course provides an awareness of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) and provides best practices for managing NORM in high-risk industries.
This e-learning course contains four modules:
Module 1: Introduction to NORM and Hazards Define what Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) is and where it is found Identify the common risk areas for exposure to NORM in the workplace Identify common examples of NORM Describe ionising and non-ionising radiation Identify radiation exposure routes Describe the hazards and risks associated with exposure to NORM Module 2: NORM Control Measures Explain the importance of following safe systems of work Explain the principles of radiation protection. Describe the hierarchy of controls for minimising exposure to NORM. Describe engineering controls in minimising exposure to NORM. Describe the Area Classification requirements. Identify the items of PPE and RPE requirements. Module 3: Safe Handling of NORM Describe the procedures for handling NORM in the workplace. Describe the procedures for storing and disposing of NORM waste. Identify the classification and transportation requirements when shipping NORM waste. Describe the response measures to take in the event of an accident or incident involving NORM. Module 4: Radiation Detection and Monitoring Programmes Explain the role of radiation detection and management programmes in the workplace. Explain specific roles and responsibilities of designated personnel Describe the radiation detecting and monitoring requirements for classified workers "
