Purpose of OPITO MIST Further – Online Training

Essential Information

Prerequisites:

Participants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • A valid OPITO MIST Initial or Further training certificate and photo identification or
  • A valid Vantage POB number and prior offshore experience (UKCS or Internationally)*

*Learners must also complete a declaration confirming prior offshore work experience, including their last offshore trip details.

Who is it for?

Designed for offshore workers who need to renew their MIST certification every four years.

Assessment:

The course includes assessments for five mandatory units, requiring a 100% pass mark to achieve certification.

Certification:

Participants receive a 4-year OPITO MIST Further Training certificate upon successful completion. Certificates can be renewed up to three months in advance of the expiry date.

Course content

Major Accident Hazards

This module introduces participants to offshore legislative frameworks and the significance of asset integrity. It covers common hazards, the role of the Safety Case, and how these components interact to maintain operational safety.

Workplace Hazards and Personal Safety

Participants learn about typical offshore workplace hazards, personal safety responsibilities, and the importance of life-saving rules. The module also highlights the role of safety committees and representatives in creating a safe working environment.

Risk Management

This module covers the principles of risk assessment and management, teaching participants how to identify and mitigate risks in offshore operations. It also includes training on risk intervention systems and safe practices.

Control of Work

Participants gain an understanding of permit-to-work systems and their role in safety management. This module focuses on ensuring operational compliance and the responsibilities of individuals in managing work controls.

Helicopter Safety

Focusing on transportation to and from offshore installations, this module covers the key principles of helicopter safety, including emergency procedures and the roles of personnel in maintaining safety during transit.

Safety Culture and Behaviour

This module emphasises the importance of fostering a proactive safety culture. It discusses personal behaviour, communication, and accountability in creating a safer workplace.
