Purpose of OPITO Command & Control for ERRV Masters & Mates

Essential Information

Prerequisites:

Participants must have Deck Officer qualifications as per Flag State requirements and hold an OPITO Initial Training Shipboard Operations certificate or equivalent.

Who is it for?

This course is intended for ERRV Masters and Mates responsible for command and control during offshore emergency response operations.

Assessment:

Competency is assessed through theoretical instruction and practical exercises, including scenario-based simulations.

Certification:

Upon successful completion, participants receive OPITO certification for Command & Control in ERRV operations, valid for three years.

Course content

Theory of Command and Control in ERRV Operations:

Understanding the role and responsibilities of the ERRV, including applicable legislation and the importance of drills and the Ongoing On-Board Development and Training Program (OODTP).

Stress Recognition and Leadership in Emergencies:

Training in recognising stress in oneself and others, and the importance of effective leadership during emergencies.

Use of Resources and Vigilance:

Ensuring readiness by utilising available resources and maintaining constant vigilance aboard the ERRV.

Information Management and Decision-Making:

Techniques for managing information in emergencies, setting priorities, and taking decisive actions.

Communication and Coordination:

Skills in relaying information efficiently, keeping rescue agencies informed, and coordinating with other rescue and support units.

Practical Simulations Using Full-Mission Bridge Simulator:

Engaging in realistic scenarios, such as helicopter ditching, vessel collision, fire, and abandonment, with graded exercises to build competence in emergency responses.
