Purpose of the GWO Sea Survival Refresher - Blended

Essential Information

Prerequisites:

Participants must have previously completed the full GWO Sea Survival course and should be physically fit to participate in water-based practical exercises.

Who is it for?

This refresher course is intended for offshore wind industry personnel who need to maintain their GWO Sea Survival certification, including technicians and safety staff who may face emergency sea situations in their roles.

Assessment

Participants will be evaluated through online knowledge checks and practical skills assessments during the hands-on training session. Competence in emergency response and sea survival techniques is required for certification.

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants receive a GWO Sea Survival Refresher certificate, valid for two years, ensuring continued compliance with GWO safety standards.

Course content

Online Sea Survival Theory Refresher

A self-paced online module covering basic sea survival concepts, emergency procedures, and the use of personal safety equipment in preparation for practical training

Hazard Identification and Risk Management

Reviews key risks and hazards associated with offshore environments, teaching participants to identify and assess potential dangers during sea-based operations.

Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in Water

Covers correct usage and limitations of PPE, including life jackets and immersion suits, ensuring participants can use safety gear effectively in emergencies.

Survival at Sea Techniques

Provides hands-on training in essential survival skills, including floating, swimming, and group survival techniques, critical for handling prolonged periods in water.

Emergency Evacuation and Rescue Procedures

Reinforces protocols for safely evacuating offshore structures and following rescue procedures, preparing participants for coordinated emergency response.

Practical Sea Survival Drills

Realistic, scenario-based drills that allow participants to practice sea survival skills in a controlled environment, building confidence and preparedness for real-life incidents.
