Purpose of GWO Sea Survival Refresher

Essential Information

  • Participants must hold a valid and in-date GWO Sea Survival certificate.

  • This course is intended for personnel working in the wind industry or related fields who need to refresh their GWO Sea Survival certification.

Assessment:

  • Participants will be assessed through practical exercises and theoretical evaluations to demonstrate competence in sea survival techniques and emergency response procedures.

Certification:

  • Upon successful completion, participants receive a GWO-approved Sea Survival Refresher certificate valid for two years.

Course Content

Hypothermia and drowning risks:

Understanding the dangers and symptoms associated with cold water immersion and drowning.

Life-saving appliances and PPE:

Familiarisation with the advantages and limitations of various LSA, PPE, and PFPE commonly used offshore.

Safe transfer procedures:

Demonstrating safe transfer techniques from vessel to dock, vessel to foundation, and vessel to vessel.

Emergency and safety procedures:

Knowledge of emergency protocols on installations, vessels, and WTGs.

Search and rescue (SAR) and GMDSS:

Understanding SAR operations and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System.

Man overboard recovery and first aid:

Executing recovery operations and providing first aid treatment for a "man overboard" scenario.
