CO2 Awareness
Purpose
This e-learning course provides an awareness of carbon dioxide (CO2); what it is and where it is found; the characteristics and properties of CO2; symptoms and effects of exposure to CO2; carbon dioxide poisoning; regulatory exposure limits; safety measures and precautions to take when working in areas with the risk of a release of CO2; and first aid measures that should be taken in the event of CO2 poisoning. The course also covers the requirements associated with personal gas detectors and the donning of filter masks, escape sets and breathing apparatus.
Objectives
LO1: Describe carbon dioxide (CO2) LO2: Describe where CO2 is found. LO3: Identify the characteristics and properties of CO2 LO4: Explain the CO2 exposure limits. LO5: Identify the symptoms and effects of exposure to differing levels of CO2. LO6: Describe CO2 poisoning. LO7: Describe the symptoms of CO2 poisoning. LO8: Describe the contingency plan and procedures that should be in place when working in a high-risk gas environment and the actions to take in the event of an alarm. LO9: Identify the first aid measures that should be taken in the event of CO2 poisoning. LO10: Describe the requirements and checks associated with personal gas detectors. LO11: Describe the requirements associated with donning escape sets and breathing apparatus.
Assessment
End-of-course assessment with 80% pass mark.
