Nautical Institute - Gives Green Light

The Nautical Institute has issued or re-issued its accreditation to eleven of Maersk Training Svendborg's maritime courses. After four days the two visiting inspectors left with one clear view of the way courses are facilitated and conducted – 'Maersk Training Svendborg is in its own league and is a beacon amongst training facilities.'

Lead inspector Captain Mark Pointon and Captain John Dickinson spent from a Monday to the Thursday sitting in on classes, assessing training methodology, instructors and facilities and their final conclusion was that amongst the 70 training organisations they accredit worldwide, MT was at the top of the pile, a standard setter.

The courses they assessed and accredited were:

Throughout their time at the Mearsk Offshore Simulation and Innovation Centre, MOSAIC, the captains were accompanied by instructors Karsten Haegg and Kenneth Kroer Hansen.

'Getting the accreditation is a big thing because it is much more than a logo, it is the official stamp which participants must have in order to work in these areas,' explained Kenneth. 'Captain Pointon visited us five or six years ago and although much has changed here in that period, he quickly identified that the standards set then had not diminished in the slightest. That was a very good starting point for them to review our new courses and facilities. The whole process went very smoothly.'

As a recognised international profession body for seafarers, the Nautical Institute is a Non-Governmental Organisation dedicated to promoting high standards of knowledge, qualifications and competence amongst those in control of sea-going craft. With such an aim it is easy to understand how much we at MT value receiving their accreditation.
