(Combined Danish Maritime Legislation for Senior Officers (not masters) and Working Environment (§16))

Purpose

To train necessary Danish Maritime Legislation in order to serve as a foreign senior officer (except masters) on board a Danish ship.
To obtain such skills that he/she is able in co-operation with other crewmembers to maintain and promote safety, health and well-being on board. Including assisting in resolving problems related to working environment on board.

Content

Learn about Danish Legislation history and structure and with weight on the rights and duties for seafarers. During the course the participants will work with different Act's and Orders.
In groups they will work with the Danish Safety and Working Environment legislation. They will learn how to work in the safety organisation on board in a structured way using, analysing, problem solving, meeting and communication skills. There will be introduction to chemicals and other exposures affecting the health on short and long-term basis.
They will work with Safety problems as in a Safety Organisation on board and learn how to make risk assessment and Work Place Instructions.

Objectives

After the course the participants will have gained knowledge in how to comply with Danish Legislation in particular to those acts and orders used during the course. Have knowledge of the penalty system and the rights and duties for all on board Danish flagged vessels.
After the course the participants can be an active part of the Safety Organisation onboard and know about meeting and teamwork skills. The participants are able to find relevant information in legislation, procedures and other publication.

Admission Requirements

The course will give the participant the knowledge and skills to become a Senior Officer on a Danish vessel.
The taxonomy of this course is therefore high.
The course is open only for persons applying for Danish recognition of foreign Certificate of Competency as navigator or marine engineer at senior level.
It is expected that persons on Senior Officer level has both academic level of knowledge and also good English skills in both talking, reading and writing.
The §16 the participants shall as a minimum meet the requirement for signing on as AB, officer or part of a service crew.

Preparation

In order to cover the amount of information there will be reading material for self studies before course start. The content of the pre-course material is part of the written test.

Duration

4 days residential course with evening work.
5 days non-residential course.
The combined course is built up with a 2 day DML course and 3 days §16 course. The courses are conduced with an overlay of the 2nd day with a total of only 4 days.

Participants

Minimum 8, maximum 15 persons (be aware of max 15 on day 2 if new arrives only for the §16).

 

Language

English – The entire course will be conducted in English, including the written tests (not multiple choice test).

 

Evaluation of Participants

Each participants will individual be evaluated and assessed during the course: At the end of both courses (DML course Day 2 and §16 course Day 4) there will be a written test which will result in APPROVED/NOT APPROVED.
However, we can offer a 2nd test on both the DML and the §16 on Day 4 after the end of the §16 course. This will involve extra fee for test and time.

Venue

The course can be conducted at either Maersk Training Svendborg or at the customer's venue.
