Purpose

This OPITO approved introductory safety training course is structured to introduce the essential safety elements of the offshore oil & gas industry - giving an appreciation of the potential hazards and various controls that may be encountered by personnel offshore.

The syllabus consists of 9 modules which includes case studies and some practical exercises. Each module also includes a written assessment.

Module 1 - Introduction to the hazardous offshore environment
Module 2 - Working safely including safety observation systems
Module 3 - Understanding the risk assessment process
Module 4 - Tasks that require a permit to work
Module 5 - Personal responsibility in maintaining asset integrity
Module 6 - Using manual handling techniques every day
Module 7 - Controlling the use of hazardous substances offshore
Module 8 - Knowledge and practices of working at height
Module 9 - Being aware of mechanical lifting activities

Objectives:

Each unit has been designed to focus the delegates’ attention on their personal responsibility for safety and their behaviour and attitude towards their co-workers, the installation and the environment.

Admission Requirements

This course is aimed at new entrants to the offshore oil and gas industry, ideally for work in UK waters. It is preferred the course is undertaken upon completion of the BOSIET course, though this is not essential.

Delegates will be required to bring photographic ID. Before starting the course, delegates will be required to complete a medical questionnaire. Any additional PPE that may be required will be provided.

Duration

2 days. An OPITO- approved certificate will be issued upon completion of the course. Revalidation will be required every 4 years after the issue date, via an on-line assessment

Language

An understanding of English - verbal, reading and writing - is advised. If you are unable to communicate in English a translator can be provided for you, to which end there will be an additional cost added to the total course price.
