Purpose

To give the participants the right attitude, knowledge and skills with regards to legislation and assessments tools in order for them to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Port Facility Security Officer.

Contents

The training includes:

• Enhancing security awareness and vigilance
• Ensuring adequate training for personnel responsible for the security of the Port Facility
• Ensuring effective communication and co-operation between the port facility security officer and the relevant ship security officer and or the company security officer
• Ensuring that port facility security assessments are carried out
• Ensuring the development, the submission for approval, and thereafter the implementation and maintenance of the port facility security plan
• Ensuring that the port facility security plan is modified, as appropriate, to correct deficiencies and satisfy the security requirements of the individual facility
• Arranging for internal/external audits and reviews of security activities
• Ensuring that deficiencies and nonconformities identified during internal audits, periodic reviews, security inspections and verifications of compliance are promptly addressed and dealt with
• Ensuring consistency between security requirements and safety requirements

The course fulfils the requirements described in IMO model course 3.21 “Port Facility Security Officer”.

Objectives

Those who successfully complete this course should be able to undertake the duties and responsibilities of Port Facility Security Officer".

Admission Requirements

The participants should have basic knowledge about the maritime shipping industry and port facility’s general daily operation. The training is developed for persons designated to act as Port Facility Security Officers or their deputies, but also to other shore based staff having specific security duties.
