We know and understand the need for certification. Basically there are three types, mandatory, acknowledgement of course achievement and those of external recognition. Competency is vital in the fields we train for and knowing that the person beside you knows exactly what to do in a routine or unexpected act, cannot simply rely in trust or hope. The current industry-wide drive is towards clearly understood universal standards and the only way of monitoring this is through mandatory certificates such as those issued by The Nautical Institute and the Danish Maritime Authority. Secondly with a growing number of courses and as a means of helping the individual keep track of their career, we at Maersk Training issue certificates when appropriate. These are particularly valuable in areas where courses build knowledge upon knowledge. Finally there are the ones we are ourselves honoured to receive. On the wall of our headquarters hangs the first ever issued DNV Certificate of Excellence. The independent assessment body Det Norske Veritas, put us under stringent and testing examination and we emerged with a benchmark figure of 96% which has never been equaled or surpassed.
